Whitney will release new album 'SPARK' on September 16th.
The group – helmed by Julien Ehlrich and Max Kakacek – enjoyed huge success with their 2016 debut, the lovelorn 'Light Upon The Lake'.
The 2019 follow-up saw Whitney re-affirm their gilded Americana, before the temptation for a diversion became apparent.
A shift both sonically and personally, new album 'SPARK' was prompted by a cross-country move, returning to Chicago.
More direct in its appeal, the music on 'SPARK' channels a pop ethos the two have hinted it, but never fully explored.
Julien elaborates: “Max and I wrote ‘REAL LOVE’ in June 2021 right after a cross country move back to Chicago. I was experiencing heightened levels of anxiety and panic, while the entire city was re-emerging from isolation. I’ve been running away from and self medicating my anxiety for as long as I can remember, but for whatever reason, it felt like it was time to dive straight into it.”
“During late night sessions over a two week period, we captured the embrace of anxiety and fear in a way that resonated with us immediately. We spent the next few summer nights driving on Ashland with the windows down and the song turned up. It felt like an emotional and musical burst of light and we’re so grateful to finally be sharing that with people.”
New single 'REAL LOVE' is online now, a deft fusing of their sighing, country-tinged sound and something glossier, more direct.
Alongside this, Whitney have shared plans for a full November 2022 tour, including a date at London's O2 Academy Brixton – tickets for the tour go on sale this Friday (June 17th) at 9am.
